Austco Nurse Call System upgrade

Project overview

Bream Bay Village, part of Oceania Healthcare’s retirement living portfolio, needed a modernised Nurse Call system to improve safety, streamline emergency response, and future-proof its infrastructure. The existing system was outdated and did not have the necessary capabilities to support the village’s evolving operational requirements.

G&S Technologies was engaged to design and implement an Austco RF-based Nurse Call system, ensuring reliable communication between residents, staff, and emergency responders. The installation covered all villas and communal areas, incorporating emergency call points and wireless pendants to enhance residents' safety and mobility. Additionally, all smoke detectors were fully integrated into the Nurse Call system, offering a seamless emergency alert network.

This project required meticulous planning to ensure the new system was implemented while maintaining the existing infrastructure, avoiding disruptions to village operations and resident care.

Systems Installed

Austco Tacera Nurse Call System

A cutting-edge Austco IP-based Nurse Call system was installed to replace the previous infrastructure, improving reliability, response times, and monitoring capabilities.

RF Call Points

Strategically placed in all villas and communal spaces for immediate emergency assistance.

Wireless Pendants

Residents were provided with mobile emergency pendants, enhancing safety and mobility.

Smoke Detector Integration

Fire alarms were fully linked to the Nurse Call system, providing immediate alerts to staff in case of emergency.

Off-Site Monitoring

The system was connected to Oceania’s preferred remote monitoring provider for enhanced oversight and response coordination.

Scalable Design

Built to accommodate future expansions, ensuring long-term functionality and cost efficiency.

A high-performance Master Antenna Television (MATV) System was installed to deliver reliable access to multimedia services throughout the facility. The system included:

Digital Television Distribution

provides high-definition broadcasts to all residential units and common areas.

Radio Broadcast Access

ensures a variety of audio entertainment options.

A unified distribution system

enables consistent signal quality and uninterrupted access to multimedia services.

Designed to enrich residents' daily experiences, the system delivers information and entertainment through a centralised, reliable platform that supports high-quality content delivery across the entire site.

We also installed a robust Legrand Generic Cabling and Communications System (GCCS) to provide high-speed connectivity and support the facility’s data, voice, and multimedia communication needs. The system included:

Structured Cabling

for a reliable backbone that supports diverse communication requirements.

Category 6A Cabling

ensures high-speed data transfer for internal and external communication.

OS2 Multimode Fibre-Optic Cabling

delivers enhanced capacity and reliability for long-distance signal transmission.

This system establishes a strong foundation for efficient communication between residents, staff, and external contacts. Designed to meet current demands, it also future-proofs the facility’s infrastructure for technological advancements.

Installing a comprehensive Electronic Security System (ESS) provides optimal safety and secure operations across the facility. The system included:

Gallagher Access Control

ensures secure entry and exit points with electronic access management.

NX Witness Video Management System (VMS)

integrated with Vivotek CCTV Cameras for real-time surveillance and monitoring.

GT Aiphone Intercom Systems

enable reliable communication at key access points.

Emergency Break Glass Units

are strategically placed for rapid response in critical situations.

Motion Detection

to monitor unauthorised movement and enhance situational awareness.

The ESS is fully integrated with the facility’s Fire Alarm Systems, allowing for controlled access and real-time monitoring during emergencies. This system ensures a secure and protected environment for both residents and staff.
