Michael Pope
Managing Director
In 2007, Michael Pope joined G&S Technologies and embarked on a career that has seen G&S Technologies evolve to where it is today.
In 2010, G&S Technologies was established as a separate entity working out of a shed in Hamilton. The team of two grew rapidly over the next few years, with Michael maintaining his vision to ensure that service, delivery and client excellence were maintained throughout this period of growth.
Michael knew that a business is only as strong as the talent within. This led to a period of targeted recruitment of like-minded people who represented the same values he shared. Which today we have embodied as our company values of Respect, Relationships, Empowerment and Excellence. An employee share scheme was developed, and key staff were able to become owners, and this is a key part of this success story.
Phil Simmonds and Leigh Brett, who were employees under Guild & Spence Electrical, joined in 2015, and this enabled the business to achieve rapid growth in both the Waikato & Bay of Plenty respectively.
As the Auckland branch continued to grow, it was decided to move the head office to Auckland, and Michael shifted from Hamilton to manage this area and the administration team. This is now the largest branch within the business.
Phil, with his technical abilities, helped the team identify new and diverse technologies, which Leigh and Michael then marketed to our ever-growing corporate base. These roles evolved as the growth continued.
In 2015 & 2017, new branches were established both organically and via acquisition in the Wellington region and the Hawke’s Bay region. This helped us serve our purpose as a premier provider of healthcare solutions.
In 2020, both Leigh and Phil joined Michael as directors of G&S Technologies. This enabled a new management structure to empower the up-and-coming leaders in the business to thrive through our culture of servant leadership.
Strong growth continued, and in 2024, Andrew Atkinson joined the team and, as COO, helped facilitate a corporate structure that has enabled the business to grow both our people and business for many years on its strategic growth path.
In 2025, the business was acquired by ASX-listed Austco Healthcare, our largest supplier and our partner for Austco Nurse call systems for over 20 years. The shared ambitions of Austco and G&S Technologies made this formalisation an exciting proposition for both parties.
Culminating in a personal achievement for Michael Pope in 2025 as a finalist in the Ernst Young Entrepreneur of the Year. The future is an exciting one for the people of G&S Tech as we focus on our clients' ICT solutions that empower the level of care to residents and patients across New Zealand in the Technology Age.
